  • 3 lbs boneless beef shoulder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tsp molasses
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp Five Spice Powder
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil
  • Honey for basting
  • Cilantro leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cut the beef into long strips about 3 inches thick to maximize flavor absorption.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together all marinade ingredients until smooth.
  3. Rub the marinade onto the beef strips, cover, and refrigerate overnight.
  4. Preheat oven to 500°F (260°C) and line a baking sheet with foil.
  5. Place a metal rack on top of the sheet, spray with cooking spray, and arrange beef strips on the rack.
  6. Roast uncovered for 25 minutes; turn beef and continue roasting for another 10 minutes.
  7. Baste with honey mixed with reserved marinade after turning at the halfway mark.
  8. Allow beef to rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
