Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • ½ cup whole milk (room temperature)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons dry active yeast
  • ¼ cup + 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • ½ cup confetti sprinkles
  • For the cream cheese frosting: 4 oz cream cheese, ¼ cup unsalted butter, 1 ½ cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, milk, and yeast. Stir in one tablespoon of sugar and let sit for about 5-7 minutes until bubbly.
  2. In a stand mixer, whisk together the yeast mixture, remaining sugar, and egg until combined. In another bowl, mix kosher salt with flour.
  3. Gradually add two cups of flour to the wet mixture while kneading on low speed. Slowly incorporate softened butter one tablespoon at a time and mix in confetti sprinkles.
  4. Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise for about an hour until doubled in size.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle (20 x 14 inches). Spread softened butter over it.
  6. Mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt for the filling; sprinkle evenly over the dough.
  7. Roll tightly from one long side into a log shape; slice into twelve pieces. Place in a greased baking pan and allow to rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for approximately 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  9. For frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar until thickened. Frost warm rolls before serving.
