  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups oats (quick cooking or old-fashioned)
  • 4 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together shortening and sugars until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in water and vanilla until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Gradually add to creamed mixture.
  5. Fold in oats until evenly distributed.
  6. Drop dough onto greased baking sheets using a medium cookie scoop.
  7. Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for two minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  8. For the icing, mix milk and powdered sugar until smooth; adjust consistency with water as needed.
  9. Dip the tops of cooled cookies into the icing.
